History

History of the development of the Tiwai Project

The development of the project has taken over 20years and is based upon taking natural occurring resources and processing them and all waste generated into useable and value added products at a single location.

The concept of the project has always been about utilising all material and products with a 0% waste generation outcome.  Over the years industries have built and developed techniques that allow for the creation of this concept and converted it from concept only into a commercially viable reality.  With new focused energies on environmental impact and recovery this project concept has taken a stronger position in both application and outcomes.

In 2019 this project outline and fully developed concept was introduced to the New Zealand government key ministers and key government departments as a solution to the Tiwai Point contamination problem as well as a economic strategy of scale.  The project has remained active in concept and interest within the New Zealand government through out the last 5 years.

The "Tiwai Project has seen 3 different government coalitions and includes very senior ministers and prime ministers have been briefed in some scale about the project.  These governments were (NZ first/Greens/Labour Coalition), (Labour/Green coalition), and now (Act/NZ first/National Coalition).

The New Zealand Government departs involved/briefed are:

  • Ministry of Energy
  • Ministry of Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
  • Ministry for the Environment
  • Ministry of Conservation
  • Infrastructure commission
  • New Zealand Treasury
  • Minister of Finance
In 2019 some early discussion were held with Rio Tinto about this concept in brief only.

Full concept documentation was provided to the NZ Government departs and still is a possible solution to the toxic waste currently on site at Tiwai Point smelter.

The New South Wales Government, Northern Territory Government were given the concept documentation for review and possible use within their specific regions as different options and applications for the project of this nature.

This project is able to located anywhere in the world and all systems are both scalable in nature and compatible with any raw material and outcomes based on the processing of the desired material.  It will need to have sustainable and affordable access to the chosen energy generation fuel required by the assigned energy plant incorporated into the environmental treatment systems.
